Kia - reverse gear issue

I have always had trouble getting reverse gear in my 2018 Kia Rio. I am told that it is normal for a Kia and that I have to roll my car in order to get in reverse. This seems to me to be a huge safety matter and I feel as if I am being fobbed off. I have had 10 cars in my life and have never had to do this before. Does their explanation seem plausible or should I take it further?

I can't imagine for a second that any one should have to 'roll' a modern day car to get ii reverse! kia's come with 7 yr warranty so get it fixed under that.1

It can be a little more difficult to get in to reverse due to the different type of gear pattern. But no you shouldnt have to roll the car everytime to get the gear.1

I’ve owned a Kia for 7 years and driven about 10 other Kias on loan when my car is in for repair/service, including a 2018 Kia Rio.I’ve never had to do that to select reverse. If that’s what your local Kia dealer says, take it to a different Kia dealer and see what they say. But no, that’s not a reasonable explanation in my view.1

See what other Rios your dealer has in and ask to see how difficult they are to select reverse1

Automatics are best and I recall the days of my first car a maunal and second one that was a five speed it took me a while to engage 5th gear easily. - then autos all the way0

Thanks for all the comments. The dealership says that all Kias and VWs are like this and basically I need to just get used to it. My sister has had 6 Kias and she's not had the same issue. I think I will deal with Kia direct.1

The dealer is incorrect. (And also confused because Kia and Hyundai share platforms, not VW).allofushere said:Thanks for all the comments.
