Halifax Employer Reference Request

Halifax have requested an employer reference from my wife's employer (she's currently on mat leave, we sent a return to work letter and her payslips prior to mat leave but it has been deemed insufficient - probably due to a pay rise she's had since being on mat leave).
Broker told us Tuesday that Halifax have reached out directly to her employer for this. Does anyone know how this would be? (Letter or email).
My wife works for a large care provider who own multiple homes. The return to work letter was issued by her actual care home (with their address and contact info) but the registered company address is for head office at a totally different site.
Head office are still working from home post covid, thus there is significant delays in them actually actioning post. She has spoken with her care home and head office directly but neither has received the request as of Friday. Head Office have recommended the request be emailed to payroll rather than posted to them to avoid delays.
1) will Halifax have used the contact info provided on the return to work letter or the contact info on companies house?
2) is it normal to email or write for these requests?
3) I have contacted my broker to find out how the request was sent but I've had no response from them. Same for requesting the reference be requested via email. Am I allowed to contact Halifax directly to relay this to them if my application is going via a broker?
We're 5 weeks into this application now and the vender is getting nervous that there is no update. We can't afford another 1-2 week delay for this reference so looking for help on how best to get this moving if anyone has any experience or ideas!!
Thanks

If this were me I’d have to call myself. I couldn’t deal with the lack of control over that one. Good luck.0

Generally halifax will call the employer to get an email address to send the reference to0

My broker sent off an employment reference to Halifax. They needed one or two minor amends but they informed me of that via the broker, not my employer. It was actually me who had to approach my employer with the request and to provide them with the necessary email address to send it to, so Halifax haven't made contact with them directly.0

Thanks guys.
If I've not heard back from my broker by Monday (baring in mind I tried to contact them on Wednesday and today!) I'm just going to call Halifax directly. Hopefully they will give me an email or accept the one I offer them!
The Mojo nightmare continues!1 -
