This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning, and thanks for starting Gers. It's cloudy here, showers are forecast I think, but the wind has dropped.I'm grocery shopping today, and baking - tomorrow is Dil's dad's 70th, and there may be a BBQ, or not depending on the weather. Anyway, everyone is taking some food - think I'll make some old favourites out of the Be-Ro book, chocolate cookies and maids of honour, and a savoury pie or two. I had thought of making an iced ginger cake, but ginger cake will be sticky ,smaller stuff is easier, especially for the children. If I'd had room in the freezer to store pies and small cakes I would have done it in advance, but never mind.Hope everyone is all right, and has a good Saturday, take care folks14

Good morning to all.MARIE - so sorry to hear about your op being postponed. It's such a let down for you.BELLA - your DM will need all your support now, more than ever. My thoughts are with you and your family.TA - did you get good news about lockdown? I really hope so.It's pretty grey outside this morning. Yesterday we had bouts of dreadful rain with bits of sunshine bursting through every so often. Even with all the rain here it wasn't as bad as other places. I hope that everyone is safe if soggy.Back in July I asked here about Nordic walking as my surgeon had suggested it to help with my balance and strength as my gait is still a bit wonky. Yesterday I managed to book on a course for it.
I'm delighted, so far. It's over two Saturdays next month, two hour sessions each time. It seems there's some technique to learn rather than just walking with poles. As long as it helps I'm prepared to have a go. My shoulders are so tense when I walk so I've been doing exercises for them too. Action and reaction in practice.
I'm off to the shops this morning then, when DM's Scrabble friend is here, I've got the spare printer to install for another friend. Never a dull moment. Now it's time to get myself ready. I wish everyone a happy Saturday.14 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting us off. The sun is currently shining, showers are forecast but at least that horrible wind has dropped.
Well here we are starting week 4 of the local lockdown. No change, good or bad, for us. To say I am fed up and at rock bottom is an understatement.
So what excitement does today hold. Oh that's right - nothing. I will get the little bus into town and, if I can bear the excitement, I might get the bus along the valley bottom again to the next little town along. I won't go in Lidl again as it's too tempting and I ended up with a very heavy bag last week. I could do with a dolly trolley I think.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. MM so sorry to read the op never happened. I hope you don't have to wait too long for another date. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"15 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off x
Sunny bright but still very breezy to start the day.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm now enjoying my first cuppa and will head to the shower shortly, DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken, chips/jacket potato, beans/salad, I had fishcakes and veg. Tonight will be lasagne, chips/jacket potato/salad.
I was productive yesterday and got done what I wanted, so will be able to spend some time today menu planning and researching some new recipes etc.
Keep safe and well x

Morning
Bella My heart goes out to you
MM Sorry the op was postponed having been where you are I know how much pain you are likely in so I hope they got it sorted quick
Not a particularly nice day here grey clouds and rain on the books. So much colder too in fact i think its time for the duvet to go back on instead of just the cover.
Nothing unusual happening today food arriving any minute and a couple of volunteer calls to do then the day is mine. Decluttering lots at the moment which is very cathartic I read about a system called Swedish Death Cleaning on another forum....sounds very morbid but its really not in a nutshell its about not having loads of useless stuff around which if anything did happen your relatives would have to deal with . As I live on my own then it made sense so mission onStarted with getting rid if some stuff on a local free site like a big posh smoothie maker ...Im not and never will be someone who drinks green stuff so why I bought it in the first place is beyond me and as its sat in a cupboard for years I am unlikely to miss it.
Have a good day all if you can14 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Gers.
I've not posted for months, life has been getting on the way. I'm not sure if anyone remembers me.
Yesterday horrifically windy but today it's sunny at least it is at the moment.
I've walked the dogs, we have two for a short time but will be back to having just one when dd1 moves next month.
We now have another grandchild, a nine year old boy who has had a difficult time so far but is settling in well.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.15 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Gers.
It has rained overnight but dry now with a lot of cloud, not sure what it will be like as the day goes on and I now read the weather forecast as some form of joke.
We are not back in full lockdown but restrictions are intensified and I think another lockdown may be inevitable. We have had to have some work done in the house this week but used a combination of distancing and masks, plus washing down door handles, banisters and the room they were working in. So fingers crossed. I'm glad it has been done as if things go the way I expect, it might not have been possible.
I tidied yesterday to very little avail. OH cooked, we had egg and chips, delicious but not exactly healthy, I did have an orange afterwards for some vitamin C.
Today I need to rake up leaves as the trees have been losing leaves for several weeks now. My preferred method is to cut the grass as that also collects and chops the leaves, much easier, but the grass is very wet and unlikely to be dry enough for days.
Other than that, very little happening here. Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning all
TA I hope things ease for you soon. Good to get out today I think.Hester how lovely to see you and another grandson, how lovely. So good that he is settling.Nelski I’m going to look up Swedish Death Clearing today. I did Marie Kondo couple of years ago and It felt good but I didn’t tackle some stuff and I think it might be good to try from another angle. We had rain yesterday too Gers, some real downpours.Bright now and blue skies so off out with the dog.We have birthday tea round at DD’s today as DGS is 5 😍😍😍.Take care all x15 -
Morning all
HH good to see you. Congrats on the new grandson. I do follow your blog but I haven't worked out how to reply to it.
TA sorry to hear that lockdown continues. Sending you positive vibes.
Good luck with the walking course Gers.
Bells have a hug.
Well have a good day folks.

Morning All
Sorry your op has been postponed MM, hope you get another date very soon.
Hugs to you bella, such a hard time.
Bedding and another load on the line, it'll probably rain later but I can hope! I need to go shopping this morning then call at the allotment - the peas have just about finished so I'll take them out then the beans will get more light and the leeks can be uncovered, the peas all fell over in the wind so there could be a mess there.
DGS's test came back negative but we've decided to postpone DGD's birthday lunch, he's obviously had something so we don't want whatever it is, the high temp would mean having to go for a test which I could do without.
Hope you're all well, take care and have a good weekend. XX14
