Pet insurance - worth claiming? Any experiences on premium increases after a claim?

Hi there,
My dog has just come home from a 2 night stay at the vets after eating some raisins. The bill is £450, and our excess is £100, so we would essentially be making a claim for £350. He's insured with John Lewis who I've phoned to ask if the renewal premium is likely to increase - they said yes but, predictably, couldn't tell me how much it was likely to increase by.
Does anyone have any experience claiming on pet insurance (Except pet plan! As I know they don't increase the premium), and the amount their renewal premium increased? For reference, our current premium is £16.81 a month (4 year old cocker, lifetime policy, £3k annual limit).
£350 is an amount we can stomach, so if it's going to cost us more in the long run then we won't bother claiming. Of course we could claim and then switch insurers next year, but anything kidney related is likely to be classed as preexisting...

Who is your insurer? Some, like PetPlan, don't use claims history as a rating factor so premiums go up each year as your pet gets older & inflation etc but never because of making 4 claims in a year0

A claim of £350 may not increase the premiums much but the potential for kidney damage could.0 -
