UC and 17 year old not going back to college

Options
Hi 👋🏼
so my son is 17 (18 in nov) and has decided he doesn’t want to return to his plumbing course in September. He hates it and it’s a 2hr round trip on the bus everyday. Now I know I have to tell child benefit but not sure if I need to let UC know too. Anyone have the answer to this?

If he's no longer in full time non advanced education then yes you will need to report the changes to UC and child benefit because your benefits for him will then end.
Under 18's can only claim UC in their own right in very certain circumstances. https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit/eligibility
What is he planning on doing?

  • Thank you for replying. He’s unsure atm but tbh I think he will probably just look for work instead.
