I am one of the people who Gerry 1 describes as "dumb". We cannot all be as intelligent as Gerry 1. Yet I did save £300 last year by moving onto a smart meter tariff which charges differential rates for each 30-minute slot. The relatively minor inconvenience is to minimise electricity consumption between 4 PM and 7 PM, e.g. not doing the laundry during those hours.
If you don't use a gas tumble dryer, that also makes you "dumb" lol

Sadly, it seems they're no longer available.  I'm glad my dumb meters allow me to pay just 2.03p/kWh instead of 12.11p/kWh to dry my clothes (plus a smidgen of leccy to turn the drum).
    Yup, that's what I call smart !

Not using a tumble dryer is smarter!

I'd love to know how to beat this price without a smart meter...
Consider that is not just all my electricity use for the house, but also all my 'fuel' for my car.
That was my bill last month, happy with that and impossible to get without a smart meter...
  • Two years with EDF Smart Meters and IHD.
    Faultless.
They read them remotely every 30 days or so, generate a bill and I pay the whole amount monthly in arrears by Direct Debit.
@MWT, who is that tariff from please ?

It reads just like one of those spam posts 'Last week I made $3750 just by working a few hours at home...  www.dὀdgyspậmsḯte.iὀ', and it's not a representative example because of the use of an EV.
What was your annual consumption and overall cost?

Similar situation here from a recent bill:
Helps having Solar Panels facing West and trying to minimise import during the higher charge periods.

Wow that is cheap! Who is the supplier and which tariff? Is that tariff available to every man & his dog? Never seen electric unit rates that low, cheapest I've seen is around 10p kWh.

It is either from the Octopus Go tariff or Octopus Agile tariff. We were on Go until earlier this year and our average rate for all our imported electric for the previous year was just under 8p/kWh (inc VAT). We then switched to Agile and our average monthly rate has been between 1.06p/kWh & 6p/kWh (exc VAT) per month. It may go up in the winter, but if it does we will switch back to GO.
However, you need to be able & willing to move most of your high energy use to the cheaper times and avoid the high rates between 4pm & 7pm on Agile. Not so much of a problem on GO as you get fixed rates of 5p/kWh between 00:30 & 04:30 and about 14p/kWh (depending on region) for the rest of the time.
    This guide is helpful.

Octopus Agile, yes it is available to anyone with a suitable smart meter.
That price per kWh is the blend of all the consumption at the various different half hour rates over the month.
We don't do anything special to avoid the peak rates (4-7pm) we even use electricity to cook every day between 6-7pm.
It works well for us and can't get near the Agile prices without a smart meter...
