Hi all

I have flights booked with BA from a regional airport via Heathrow to Greece on the 6th Sept returning the week after via the same route.

The flights were booked together as connecting flights direct with BA.

I've just had an email from BA informing me that my outward flight from the regional airport to Heathrow has been cancelled.

BA have helpfully moved us onto the next flight which gets in 1 hour after the connecting flight has left.

There is a flight the evening before which appears to be available so I am going to try & contact them (there goes 90 minutes of my life) and get the 1st flight moved.

My question is - if I can get it moved I'll now need a night hotel accommodation.

Any chance I could get BA to cover the cost of this?

Appreciate that the answer is likely to be no but worth asking

Just annoyed that they have disregarded the connecting flight when adjusting the 1st leg.

(I appreciate that the chances of getting to Greece for a week at all is diminishing as Covid there rises).

((also appreciate chances of getting to Greece for a week at all is diminishing as BA strikes kick in).

Happy days :-)

I’d wait a few days. BA often have this disjoint between connecting flights, whereby the first cancellation and you get emails, the system then realises you have a connection that won’t make sense and comes up with a more logical response.

I would call and see what they can do about flight changes and how can they rebook you. I wouldn't wait. And no, they won't pay for your hotel the night before.

    Just to update.

I ended up calling them - apart from the fact it took 45 mins to get through to someone the chap I spoke to was excellent.

Sorted the situation out & moved all outbound flights to ones I requested (actually gives us an extra day abroad which is good).

Hotel for new overnight stay booked & worse things happen at sea !

Now how do I arrange for Greece's Covid rate to stay low ??  :-)

You need to assume you'll have to quarantine for 14 days and plan accordingly. Greece will be on the quarantine list within the next couple of weeks.

Yep, I acknowledged that possibility in my opening post.

Keeping a close eye on Greek Covid rates.
