Your male workmates have no idea if your car is safe or not so first thing to do is ignore them.0

The time to negotiate a full year's MOT on a used car was before you bought it, not after.2

You should have asked Perry's to put a 12 month ticket on the car as part of the 'buying it' deal, whether they will do it now, well only they can answer that question.
What car model, age, mileage is it? definitely plenty on here who can give you some advice on best options.0 -
Send it in for an MOT now and if it fails or has advisories ask the dealer to rectify.0

What sort of main dealer sells cars with only 3 months MOT??If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

A MOT is not an indication of the condition of the vehicle and should never be used as one. It is only an indication of the condition of the vehicle at the time the test took place. It is perfectly possible to pass a MOT, drive 100 yards down the road on the way back from the test station, hit a particularly bad speed hump at some speed and knacker the suspension. You still have a 12 month MOT, almost freshly minted, but you now have a car with a fault.A MOT also does not check everything. It is possible to pass a MOT with you only being able to get the car in 1st and reverse gears. A MOT won't tell you if the clutch is failing, the cambelt is knackered, whether electric windows and central locking works, whether the alternator is charging, whether the battery is OK or not etc etc etc.4

Dear OP
You negotiate before the sale.
I suggest to get a mot check now and if any faults tell the dealer
Also, be aware asking workmates as most want have a car
and many take the mick
Caution advised - even if a car comes with 12 months mot, it does not mean its a good car.

The usual request: give us some context! Vehicle, year, mileage, price paid?
All the MOT tells you is that it was safe to drive 9 months ago, not for the next 3. And it tells you nothing about the condition of non-safety related components: engine, clutch, gearbox, etc.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
