A friend offered us a week at her Marriott timeshare for September , back in February this year. The holiday is now approaching but we don't want to go due to the travel restrictions and Government advice. I paid by BACS in February for the apartment. There is no cancellation offer, apparently you 'own' a week with a timeshare property. she can get a voucher valid for 2 years which she wants us to take but we would simply like to ask her for our money back. Is this unreasonable? We are not guaranteed to get a week or place at the resort during those 2 years that we may request. She does not want to pay us.

If this was simply a private arrangement with no sort of formal contractual backup then I can't see that you have any sort of leg to stand on - you can ask her to refund you but won't have any right to a refund if she refuses, so based on what you'd posted there'd be no grounds to take her to small claims, for example.1

Doesn't sound reasonable to me. You want her to pay you back out of her own pocket because you don't want to use the voucher they are offering?

She had already paid for the week herself but her friend let her down so she offered it to us. The voucher is in her name.0

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for a refund but if you have asked her and she’s refused there isn’t a lot you can do. Unless your insurance will cover you.I don’t know how timeshares work but thought you purchased a week in advance with a lump sum? In which case, with offer of a voucher, she isn’t really losing any money as such. I guess she will now be an ex friend?0
