Disabled Road Tax, Help needed, please.

I am trading my car for another nearly new used one and am set to complete the deal next week with a car supermarket..
My current car is classed as 'Disabled' for road tax.   (My insurance for this vehicle expires the following day, so don't want to postpone the deal).
Four days ago I requested a replacement Certificate of Entitlement to DLA/PIP from DWP and I await it's arrival.
Please can someone tell me that if I don't receive the replacement Certificate before I complete the deal on the new car, (and pay for a years Road Tax), can I claim a refund retrospectively on that payment once I receive the Certificate?
Would I do this through the PO or is there a specific form I need to fill in for the DVLA?
Thanks for any help.

Do you mean - get a refund on your new car - because the price includes a years RFL ?
    Ask the dealers.....
  • Not at all!
I'm referring solely to the Road Tax and DVLA.

I don't see anywhere where the OP has asked that...
OP yes, DVLA will refund you the cost of the road tax. If you have Enhanced mobility PIP then it's free, if you have standard mobility PIP then it's 50% reduction.
High rate DLA mobility is free road tax.
Not sure how you would go about claiming it back but the V5C will need to be sent to DVLA if you have free road tax so the taxation class can be changed.

If it's lower rate-cheque needs to be sent to Dvla with 50%
    V10 Tax form from P.O.
MOTEXCEMPTION -DWP STATEMENT-e.g. Pip -seems your waiting on this arriving.
another option is pay 100% full cost 12 months online.
SEnd a letter to DVLA and request they refund 50% -they send a cheque.

  • Thank you for replying.
I received the Certificate of Entitlement for PIP in todays post!
I get the enhanced rate for mobility.  I've let the dealers know and have emailed a copy of my CofE to them, so they can do the necessary in changing the V5 Taxation Class and have the free vehicle tax sorted out, prior to me collecting the vehicle.  Although, they have put the collection back by a day to accommodate this.  Hoping it doesn't get put back any further as my current car's insurance runs out now on that day.
  • Can I ask OP why you purchased new car and didn’t go through mutability scheme?
I’ve just received enhanced mobility and was considering mutability vehicle but have no prior experience.

Sometimes using the mobility scheme can be more expensive. It really depends on what exactly you want from a car. The OP may also not have bought a brand new car, they ma6y have bough a "used" car but to them, it's a new car.
I've been with mobility for almost 4 years and i've never had any problems, the first car i had was a Suzuki Vitara and now i have a Peugeot 3008. It suits me just fine because the only thing you pay for is fuel but not every vehicle is cheaper through motability. Also if you lose the mobility award in the future then you have to return the car.
  • I weighed up the pros and cons, and for me a Motability car wasn't worth it.
