Due to fly to Portugal for a week which is now open but can't as we are unexpectedly quarantining from previous week away to Malta. What are our options? Thanks as always.

Check with the airline on their policy on rebooking for a later date.1

Is there anything in the rules stopping you returning to an airport and flying out of the country within the 14 days?0

Not sure what you mean bradders1983?
We've had a week in Malta that then changed quarantine rules so now stuck at home until 31st yet due to go to Portugal 26th for a week.0 -
No there isn't. It is a common misperception that once here you have to stay for 14 days. You are free to leave at any time.bradders1983 said:Is there anything in the rules stopping you returning to an airport and flying out of the country within the 14 days?
However, you need to check the Portugese government rules on whether they will let you in given the countries you have been in within the last 14 days.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I mean, I dont think there is anything in the rules that stops someone flying back to the UK and then out again before Day 14.Serenababy said:Not sure what you mean bradders1983?

In fact I am certain no rule exists. The UK will only care what is coming in, not out. But you need to see if Malta is on the Portugal OK list as per the above.1 -
Yes. Once you arrive at your designated address for self-isolating there's only very limited reasons which you can leave before the 14 days is up such as a doctor needing to see you in person. You may be able to get out of the country during the 14 days if a family member has died abroad but I can't see any other loopholes to allow you to leave your home to travel to the airport.bradders1983 said:Is there anything in the rules stopping you returning to an airport and flying out of the country within the 14 days?1 -
I suspect you are wrong here, there was a recent thread where someone wanted to come to the UK from another country for just a week and it was acertained there was nothing stopping him coming here, going to a house, and then returning to the airport on Day 7 to go home. This is no different in reality. The UK only cares what is coming in, not out.epm-84 said:

Would you care to point where that exception is in the government's list? https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-how-to-self-isolate-when-you-travel-to-the-uk/coronavirus-covid-19-how-to-self-isolate-when-you-travel-to-the-ukbradders1983 said:

The rules are slightly different for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland but for England I can't see any exception for a British national who's got a leisure trip abroad planned within 14 days of returning from a previous one. In fact it specifically mentions a fine of up to £3200 if you leave your self-isolation address before 14 days is up and you don't provide an alternative address where you can continue your self-isolation (which itself is only allowed in exceptional circumstances.)1 -
Lots to think about - quite conflicting and confusing in parts.
Wonder if trying for a refund or voucher might be best. Such a terrible time for everyone.0 -

The OP has travelled to the UK from Malta and will be in the UK for less than 10 days. Nowhere on there does it say that rule only applies to non-British nationals. Even if it did, not all British nationals are resident in the UK.0
