Let down by Ryanair

Options
We are extremely upset by Ryanair, firstly we have tried to contact them via the telephone numerous times and on every occasion after being on hold for over an hour the line has been cut, charged at 13p per minute to wait all that time to then have no response and the line cut off is a disgrace! Due to FCO stating have to quarantine for 2 weeks after return from holiday when back in the UK we are unable to commit to this due to work commitments. We thought we could postpone the flights free of charge (without fare change fees) as this is stated on their website for holidays booked for July and August, however, upon trying it has transpired this is only applicable if you booked your holiday after 10th June. We booked 1st March before a case of coronavirus had occurred in the UK. We are not entitled to a refund, a voucher or free flight date change. When I looked Ryanair wanted to charge us £388 to change our flight dates. How is it that when the pandemic wasn't even here we are not covered for anything because our flight is still running, yet now when coronavirus is around, you are entitled to change the date if needed free of charge. This is completely unacceptable and unfair! The decision to not fly has been taken out of our hands because we cannot afford to not work for 2 weeks after we return. Surely we should be entitled to something? Our bank have also stated we wont be covered as the flight is still running but this does not seem right to us at all. Can anyone please advise us on what we can do? I have put a complaint into Ryanair, however I am not hopeful this will achieve anything. The bank we paid with said that if the flight is running we wont be covered as the good we bought were still available as advertised. Yet noone told us at the time we bought the flights that we would have to quarantine for 2 weeks after our holiday so how have we been sold a good that has been accurately advertised?! What Ryanair is doing is morally wrong but surely there is some kind of legal irregularity with this too? Please any advice is welcome!

You were happy booking non-refundable flights back in March. Other things could have happened (not just covid) that meant you are unable to fly.
Claim on your travel insurance, assuming it cover you if the FCO advise that only essential travel should take place.
  • Ryanair has provided what you paid them for and has abided by the terms and conditions you and they agreed to in March.
It's not their problem you don't want to go now and its irrelevant that they now offer free changes to new customers. It's unfortunate but all you can do is speak to your insurer.

"so how have we been sold a good that has been accurately advertised?!"

They advertised to you a flight. Nothing has changed.
  • Sadly it’s not Ryanair’s problem that you can’t quarantine.
Its always been the case with them that it costs more to change than just cancel altogether and it’s the risk you take when booking with them Covid or not.
I would just cut my losses and forget about it.

The reason the T&Cs  are more favourable now is to encourage bookings.  They have no interest in your booking and your flight is available. Do not waste money on a useless phonecall.
  • You booked a non-refundable flight which is still operating, so you can't have a refund.
The rest is irrelevant really - you can take the flight; quarantine isn't Ryanair's problem. Sorry.
