Having looked into it, it seems R class is not an unbundled version as I had assumed but the standard class for retail investors. The I class is for institutional investors such as fund platforms who can buy in bulk and get to pass a discount on to their customers. However the only platform doing this is HL, which rings the usual Woodford/LindsellTrain alarm bells.
As to why iWeb aren't allowing purchase of the R class I have no idea.

Youinvest still offer the R class but I haven't tried to buy it so I could come up with the same error. Its possible that the fund is still not popular enough for those with a smaller client base to allow them access to the I class.

I wouldn't say this is in any way related to Woodford and nothing bad happened from the Lindsell Train recommendations. It just takes a big platform to get access to a better deal on a small fund.

Looks like mates rates for the old firm from Peter Hargreaves.

There is something going on. The minimum investment amount for the Fundsmith I class is £5m. For Blue Whale I its £10m. Lindsell Train Global Class D is £200m!
Saying that, I would have thought it was possible for iWeb and Youinvest to buy in the Blue Whale I class.
  • I bought Blue Whale R Class Income on 4 August thru iWeb no problem Tried to top-up today and got the same message. Ditto with I class. Thinking I might as well sell if there’s a problem
