My husband and I should have a 4week holiday in the US beginning September 5th. We've cancelled everything that was refundable. My question is about claiming on travel insurance for the flights and a couple of hotels that were noon refundable.I booked flights through Carlton leisure, they are with AAA but provided by BA and are going ahead. Do we have to meet the dates pass and then claim or what... I've been waiting 3 days for a response from BA. We took insurance out in February before booking. I'm really unsure about what I'm supposed to do. Thanks

Do you have specific cancellation cover on your policy , most policys will not cover disinclination to travel , which yours is if the flights do take off. You will be choosing not to fly . You need to wait and see if BA cancel

Are the flights still going ahead. Is the hotel still accepting guests. The unless you have insurance that allows you to cancel because you don't want to go then you've probably got all you are going to get.
  • So even if the US aren't allowing entry and the FCO say don't travel it's still chased as disinclination to travel?

if you have FCO cover then you can claim for any unrecoverable costs covered by your policy.
You need to check that you have cover for FCO  advice against travel. Not all do and some have  restrictions on what that cover applies to.
Your policy will also say when the advice applies.  Some say it applies within 30 days of travel, some say 28 days and others are day of travel.
Phone your insurance company and ask them  if you are not sure.

It'd be down to your insurance provider to interpret this - it's a bit of a grey area.
FCO advice isn't binding so you can still travel, however the USA not allowing entry is a bigger issue (of course). I'd put it to them and see how they interpret it.

You need to read your policy, see what it says and be clear when you make a claim what grounds you are claiming under. There is probably a section called ‘cancellation’ which will say what is and isn’t covered.
