Presumably this meeting is a first stage sickness capability? Why doesn't he just attend? What do OH have to say?
He had a period of sickness in August/September 2018 and as he was then off sick from August 2019 I believe this is maybe 2nd stage now - although nobody has confirmed this. The ill health capability meeting would look at any sickness even previous to this. He does not mind if it goes to a meeting but he would still be attending before we even know his MRI results. OH are the ones pushing him to make the choice between the meeting or waiver and have given him until 28th August
He should probably speak to his union and the pensions officer at the Trust. My understanding is that the sick pay scheme is 6 mths full pay followed by 6 months half pay then nothing. There are a few exceptions such as when the person was attacked at work for example but for most cases that’s it. There isn’t any real discretion the Trust has. Hes not far off retirement anyway as a 1995 member so an ill health pension may be an option especially if he can get it bumped up a few years then it won’t be much different from what he’d retire on anyway.
