Brocker charges

I just tried to cancel my motor cycle insurance as I have sold my bike. I contacted Carol Nash and spoke with one of their advisers. Who informed me it still had 187days to run. The insurance company would refund me £45 he then went on to say that Carol Nash would charge me £50 for cancelling so I would have to pay them £5 to cancel. There is no paperwork everything is done on line and it can be cancelled at the click of a button.  This is I feel as bad as the Scammers out there and I am deeply disappointed. So I told them to leave it run and saved myself £5. The Government should step in to stop this, I was disappointed when they charged me to put my private plate on it but accepted it at the time.

Look at the charges BEFORE you take the policy out. This is how policies are "cheap" at inception... by chiselling with the charges.
Normally, though, where the refund would be more than outweighed by the cancellation charge, a half-decent insurer would simply waive the difference.

That aside, for the sake of a fiver, you REALLY need to cancel the policy. If the buyer of your bike doesn't insure it, and your policy is still running, it's your policy that will have to pay in the event of an incident.

  • As above you have to cancel the policy or you risk leaving yourself open to a world of problems. Carole Nash are not the best IMO for bike insurance and have never been the cheapest BUT they certainly aren't scamming you.

Could have been worse. You could have been paying monthly. Which means you take out a loan to pay them. So you still have the loan to payback when cancelling after any refund/charges.
