O/S Daily Wednesday 19 August 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light cloud with some pink in it - some rain is forecast. We had a really heavy downpour around 5pm yesterday - it was like a mini tornedo - there was a raging wind, thunder, lightening and biblical rain, at one point I thought the windows were going to fall in! Half an hour later the sun was shining.
Dinner last night was pork steaks, mash, veg and gravy. Not exactly sure what we're having tonight but can orgranise later.
Yesterday I did a different job to cover some holiday for someone else, made a nice change. Last day of the week for me, then I'm on days' off until going back on Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, we had biblical rain too just when I got out of the car to go and pick beans at the allotment. I had on a summer dress and flip flops and within 2 minutes I was soaked through to my underwear! It's been dry since, must work on my timing.
Good news RR, so pleased for your DD, I really hope all goes smoothly.
I've had a fairly good nights sleep for a change so feel quite refreshed this morning so ready to face the day. The child electrician came yesterday to remove the alarm, I now have a hole in the wall but that's fixable and I can always put a picture over it for now. The onions I brought home from the allotment at the weekend have all been strung and hung up around the kitchen, last year's saw me through to the end of March. There are more drying in the greenhouse, they can go to DD.
Hope everyone's well, how's your eye now Mehefin? Take care. XX14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The sun was shining when I got up but now getting swallowed up by cloud. Rain is forecast by mid afternoon. I have some washing to do but doubt it will get pegged out.
The M & S food box I ordered in a moment of self pity is due for delivery today and I am already berating myself for my recklessness. I never buy ready meals but it seemed a good idea at the time to treat myself! With much juggling about I have managed to make room for them in the smaller freezer. I am supposed to be eating from the freezers, not stocking them up even more!
So once again no plans for the day and I really should get off my arris and play catch up on jobs. I shall try and avoid it a while longer.
I was saddened to read of the death of Ben Cross. A lovely man. I developed a secret crush on him in The Citadel in the early 80's. It would be nice if they showed Chariots of Fire as a tribute.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care all x

Morning,
Not posted for a few days. On Sunday we changed plans because of the rain. Went to a garden centre and had a wander round and I bought a few things, also had a meal out . This was our first outing since the lockdown was lifted. I was impressed with the social distancing and the layout in the restaurant.
Monday I went and helped out tidying up and preparing the Food pantry which I have volunteered for from September, when the school reopens.
Yesterday housework . Today I want to pop out just to some local shops and get a few bits before it rains, Then probably more housework or I may make a card.
Rain forecast for today.I am a Senior Ambassador on the Competitions Time Board and the Old Style MoneySaving Board.

Morning everyone
Weather forecast says sunny intervals but very cloudy at the moment - I hope it clears as I have washing to go out. I had a nice meal out last night with DD and little grand daughter and my niece and her little boy - little one was quite loud at times but 3 year old behaved perfectly. it was the first time I've spent proper time with niece and little boy since lockdown so it was lovely. Usually in school holidays I would have him for the day a few times but not this time obviously.
This morning I have a man here already doing my gas service - I'd asked for an early appointment so was glad when he arrived just after 8.30. I'm meeting a friend later for lunch so we'll have a good chat. Then I'll stay in town and have a look in the charity shops and get a few bits I need in Home Bargains, as I have a dentist appointment at 3.30.
It's at a private dentist and it's costing £67 just for a consultation! I need work done quite urgently and there doesn't seem to be much chance of my usual dentist being able to do it soon - so I'll find out how much it will cost. I think it will be far too expensive for me but I thought there was no harm in finding out.
So I'll get on with some jobs once this gas man is finished.
RR glad you're daughter had good news. I was in a similar situation a long time ago and wish I'd had the courage to get out years earlier.
Hope everyone has a good day13 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Torrential rain yesterday and more today, I wasn't going anywhere but I do like to be outside so that's not happening today. It seems set for the day and is not cheering me up one bit. I think the rain has tempted the worms to the surface, I've seen several birds tugging at things from the lawn.
We have a plumber visiting this morning, I imagine that's the most excitement there will be today. I cleaned the bathroom specially yesterday, son had a late night shower and got everything wet again, how come my showering takes place in the bath and his is just generally in the bathroom!
RR great news for your DD and I hope all goes smoothly.
TA hoping that today will be a better day for you.
I have nothing to say really today, I'm just going to get on with things to fill the day, I'm fortunate in having lots to do.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Have just lost a long and very witty post. You just have to take my word for it.
Precis:
Camelot, hanging a picture over a hole in the wall is my sort of DIY.
TA, eat one of those delicious emmaness meals and enjoy every mouthful. No feeling guilty, d'you hear?
ILC, ease up on the housework. It will never be mentioned at your funeral and it makes the rest of us, (well, me) feel guilty.
dp1, at that price insist the dentist gives you champagne as a mouth wash.
AOL, men and showering....Why not give everything in the vicinity a good splash or three while you're at it.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I always mean what I say.... I don't always mean to say it out loud, but I always mean it.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.15 -
Good morning folks.Early on I made a big mistake! I moved a pile of books to sort them out and put away properly only to find huge amounts of dust. ☹️ Even I, with the same attitude to dust as Quentin Crisp, could not ignore it. ☹️☹️ So, it's out with the big yellow cloth to deal with it. I've also been tidying up the very cluttered corner behind my chair, it's become a dumping ground recently.I've packed up the unwanted printer to give to my elderly friend on Saturday. I've packed up two bags of unwanted clothes and shoes for the CS. I've emptied the DW. I've folded and put away yesterday's washing load. I've showered and dressed. That'll be all for a wee while.Tonight I'm 'attending' an online talk about the local area here, should be interesting so I'm looking forward to it.Yesterday I was made redundant from my three day a month job. I'm quite pleased, for many reasons so I'm not upset. The changes the organisation are making are for the best.DM's visitors yesterday were really lovely, they do liven up DM as they chatter away with such pleasure. The cakes I bought from the not-posh place were thoroughly enjoyed too.Right, on and up. My thoughts are with everyone here. Happy Wednesday to all.13

Morning all
Late on parade today as I did not have a good night and struggled to get up this morning, never mind the washing is nearly finished and the kitchen has had a quick clean.
Its pouring with rain here this morning and set in for the day so it will be a quick dog walk and the washing in the TD.
Thank you for all the good wishes dd is thrilled, the evil ex is already playing silly b*****s though, they had to pay £120 to get an EPC certificate for the house, dd paid her half but he has refused to pay his saying that dd had 'taken' a mirror and olive tree from the house, the mirror dd bought from her bank account and the olive tree was in the garden when they moved in and the ex had not watered it since dd left, the man is so pathetic dd has paid it this morning its worth it to get rid of him !!
Pizza for dinner tonight dd and I will have one from the Pinch of Nom book which used wraps for the base so much less calories, OH will have a normal one, will do a few sw chips with it and some salad.
DP1 apparantly one of the hardest things to do is to leave an abusive situation my hear goes out to anyone stuck in this situation xx
Have good days all xx12 -
Morning all! Today is is rain and a bit more rain in case you haven't had enough. But the beans like it so never mind.. Yesterday I was supposed ot be getting a phone call from a doctor about the aches and pains thing [ did have a letter from hospital saying stop taking one lot of tablets which I had anyway] and nothing happened so I carried on. Only to miss a call when I was dishing up at half seven. Half past seven! I feel sorry for the doctor if she's still making phone calls at that time! She rang back ten minutes later and said, so, we haven't had the X-Ray results back yet and have you made an appointment for another blood test to check something? Me - X-Ray? What X-Ray? Blood test? What? So yet again it turns out I should have written this down because all i left with in my head from the last time was stop taking the tablets. I'm such an idiot. So today it's off to the hospital to get X Rays done and she very sweetly made me an appointment to have a blood test in September. Big kudos to her for going above and beyond in my book. The skip people have been and fetched the very full skip so the tarp has been manhandled over the bin for the rain to wash it off a bit, I'll sort that out when I come back. After that, no gardening today, it's just too soggy, so plans are fluid. I chopped the chillies last night but failed to make the jelly so that's on the cards today. But that's about it I think.Ruby, great news, let's hope he doesn't faff about when it comes time to sign the papers. Gers, happy redundancy and enjoy your 'talk'! Good to hear your mother is perking a bit too. Monna, loved your precis
Hey all reading along, hope you're dry and well...Wet Wednesday!
