Are emergency flights being refunded if provider cancels original return?

Hi all, sorry if this has been covered, I did search the forum but couldn't find an answer.

Back in March we found oursevles stranded in Spain as the lockdown happened during our stay, Easyjet cancelled our return flight. (they have refunded this, it was a very cheap flight)
However, we had to get home somehow, so we booked on one of the last flights available back home, this cost considerably more than our original flight.
Does anyone know if this emergency flight is also refundable?

I have had so much trouble getitng through to Easyjet with the hours that I work not allowing me much time to spend on hold. I'd lvoe to know of emergency flights are also being refunded, given that I had absolutely no way of getting home.

Thanks

Who did you fly home with? Easyjet or someone else?
The correct procedure, assuming that easyjet didn't give you 14 days notice of the cancellation, is for easyjet to transfer your booking to another flight. Maybe you accepted the refund? In which case you are then on your own and have to arrange transport home yourself, though there is no obligation to stick with easyjet.

  • Hi, thanks for the reply.

We flew back with Easyjet. They did offer to move us a very limited amount of emergency flights they were running, but they were full within the hour, leaving us with no option but to pay for new flights. The lockdown rules in Spain meant no flights were going to be running out of the country for the forseeable, so our hand really was forced.

I'm not expecting them to refund that emergency flight I had to book with them, but I was wondering if it was a clear yes/no before I go throug another hour of being hold on my lunchbreak!

Hmm, the key is not accepting a refund to the canceled flight and easyjet then being obliged to put you on another flight home. Once you accept a refund, you really are on your own.
