Can I use a VS5 to tax my car

I assume you mean the V5C?
Yes you can tax a vehicle using the 11 digit reference number from your V5C OR if your the new keeper the 12 digit reference number from the 'new keeper' slip known as a V5C/2.0 -
Can you do it online if you don’t yet own the vehicle or do you have to go to the post office with the new keeper slip?0
