My son bought me a flight to Perth Australia in May for my birthday. The flight is booked for January 2021. If you still have to isolate when you arrive are you entitled to a refund from the airline or can I change the dates as it is a flex ticket but will I have to pay to change it. I didn't have travel insurance when my son booked it.

If the flight is cancelled then you'd be entitled to a refund, but if the border is open and the flight operates but you have to isolate then that's not the airline's problem so you wouldn't be entitled to a refund in those circumstances.

If you choose to change the dates then you'll be subject to the Ts & Cs of the ticket so would need to check whether any amendment charges would apply - at the very least I'd expect you to be charged the fare difference.
  • Border restrictions aren't made by the airlines, so no - they don't need to refund.
Only if it's cancelled do they need to refund.

Have you got travel insurance now, because you need it, not just for Covid, but for the usual things before you trip.

If it is truly a "flex " ticket yo have a generous son!

Might be worth checking the exact terms of the ticket now
