  • Be careful looking at the safelincs.co.uk - there is a seperate section for alarms that are compliant with new Scottish regs
"Please note: These Grade F2 alarms are not suitable for the new fire and smoke alarm standards in effect in Scotland from February 2021. To meet those requirements please choose from our dedicated Scottish alarms"

If the installation is not correct with the proper alarms then house insurance will be void.

This is a crazy law as tens of thousands of houses will simply not be upgraded to comply.
Have you got an actual source for that or are you just guessing?

How will not having "proper alarms" void the house insurance when they are designed to save lives nothing more?

The Scottish Government's FAQ section says the following:

Q:  How will the new regulations impact my household insurance policy?

A: Different home insurance policies provided by different insurers will have different varying terms and conditions which a homeowner must comply with in order for their home insurance to be valid.  Anyone who is unclear about the terms and conditions of their specific policy in relation to the fire and smoke alarm requirements should get in touch with their home insurer in the first instance, to check whether the new requirements will be specifically included in their policy or not.

or you could just ignore all of this until the insurer starts to ask if you have these alalms fitted, which is what im doing. I have another 7 years on my heat alarm in the kitchen and wont be changing it unless i move house.

That's probably the most generic advice I've ever read.....

A set of 2 smoke and one heat alarm of the correct type can be purchased for around or under £100, fitting does not need an expert, they are screwed in place in a similar manner to the older type.  Carbon monoxide one will be around £25, does not need to be linked to anything.
The date for this to be introduced has now been delayed by 12 months.

    Hi,
I investigated this last year but didn't buy anything as the regulation was postponed. I am going to buy FireAngel Pro Wi-Fi system as I found them to have great reviews and fairly priced

That is what I have fitted. Seems OK so far but whether the batteries will last the supposed 10 years ... (their last generation of similar devices had a lot of battery problems).

I’m not sure of the laws in Scotland but have just installed a 10 year battery life wireless connectable system at my dads house. I didn’t spend anywhere near £500 - more likely about £200 for the setup I have. They were on promotion on amazon - but aren’t at the moment - keep a watch and I’m sure they will be again.

FireAngel Pro Connected Smart Smoke Alarm, Battery Powered with Wireless Interlink and 10 Year Life https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07WVM23Z9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qrNoFbF1Q0DEG
How long have these been fitted and how are they doing?

I bought the previous incarnation of fireangel interlinked alarms in 2017, despite supposedly having 10 year battery life 3 have failed already.
