How much of your holiday cost is for the hotel and how much for the flights?
Does your insurance cover cancellation due to FCO advice? And how much is the excess?Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
The holiday cost me £618 holiday the refund I would get from LH for hotel now is £207RAC excess is £1000
i have finally got through to them and they have said as long as Portugal stays on the FCO a claim should be successful but they can’t confirm this. I can start a claim now and would need to prove what refunds / or not are available to me. I asked if I took the LH hotel refund now if I could try and claim the rest through them and the chap on the phone indicated this may be possible.
still can’t decide what to do with the LH refund ... feel like I’m gambling whatever I choose to do !0 -
Insurers expect you to mitigate any loss, so if LoveHolidays are offering you a refund for the hotel I’d take it and claim on insurance for flight (assuming that the £1000 excess is a typo)

I am covered up to £1500 for “Cancellation and cutting short your trip” and have £150 excess per person. I would be claiming for my half of the holiday only which for the flights and transfers would only be £167 so I’d possibly get only £15jackieblack said:Insurers expect you to mitigate any loss, so if LoveHolidays are offering you a refund for the hotel I’d take it and claim on insurance for flight (assuming that the £1000 excess is a typo)I think I will take LHs hotel refund and then just see what RAC can give me. Thanks for all the advise , it has helped me clarify things 😃0 -
Well now I’m confused...
In your previous post you said
so I thought RAC were your insurer and you meant £100...?🤷🏻♀️amygill1990 said:The holiday cost me £618 holiday the refund I would get from LH for hotel now is £207RAC excess is £1000But now
So who are RAC? And what is their involvement?amygill1990 said:I am covered up to £1500 for “Cancellation and cutting short your trip” and have £150 excess per person. Also £618 - £207 = £411, so where do you get £167 from 🤷🏻♀️Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
ABTA have now clarified that customers who've booked packages with one of their members should be offered refunds if the FCO advises against non-essential travel to the destination, at https://www.abta.com/news/abta-board-confirms-refund-obligation, so any ABTA member (e.g. Love Holidays) refusing to refund in these circumstances is now doing so against ABTA's steer:
ABTA Board confirms refund obligation
Following recent representations made to ABTA concerning package holiday customers’ refund entitlement in the event of Foreign Office advice against all but essential travel to a destination, the ABTA Board has met and confirmed that customers should be offered a full refund in such circumstances. In accordance with the Articles of the Association, the Board agreed unanimously that ABTA Members should offer refunds to their package holiday customers where the Foreign Office advises against travel at the time the customer is due to travel.

RAC are my holiday insurance provider. For me to make a claim with them the excess is £150. (The £1000 was a typo) Their policy wording reads that the £150 excess is per person per claim. The holiday was for 2 of us so we’d each have to make a claim to get the entirety back. I will only be making a claim for myself as unfortunately it was booked with my ex so that’s up to him claim on his insurance. Therefore the RAC will only be claiming my half of the flights and transfer ( I would presume that because I’ve accepted LHs hotel refund they won’t try and claim that back , I may be wrong but I’m a worker case scenario kinda girl) so in that case half of my share of both flight and transfer would equate to £167. Then they’d take their excess charge of £150 . That’s where those numbers came from. Sorry if I was unclear. When I re read RACs policy wording it dawned on me I’d only be claiming for my half of the hol, not the entire thing.jackieblack said:Well now I’m confused...

prior to your post I’d decided to take the LH hotel refund so probably won’t be able to claim under this ABTA refund statement as I’ve cancelled the hol. 🤦🏼♀️0
