Painting question

Hi guys,
So I have move into my new house and I like to repaint some of the bedroom as the paint is getting a bit old/ugly.
Would it better to primer before I paint it on top of it or should I just paint on top of the existing painted wall? Because that what I used to do back then.

  • Nothings changed , just give the walls a wash down with a sugar soap solution, remove any loose/flaking paint and fill any holes then crack on with a couple of top coats, if going from a dark to light colour always advisable to give the walls a couple of coats of white paint as it will work out cheaper for you
  • I think a primer would be good if your area is damp or moist, but supposing that its a bedroom I think its not necessary!

If there is damp in the wall, most modern paints will trap the moisture within. The source of the damp should be fixed and the wall should be allowed to dry out before painting. Trying to paint over damp is only going to see the paint bubble & flake off soon after.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
