Britannia oven element replacement

Hi - I have a Britannia range electric cooker, three years old. The inner top element in the main oven appears to have failed. Britannia today quoted £153 to replace (£110 callout + part). this seems expensive, to say the least. Do I have a choice: are replacements available on the net, and could I fit it myself? Does anyone know of alternative companies who would supply and fit in Hampshire?
Thanks
G

The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Hi - im a member of the Debt Help UK FORUM...
  • Thanks for the replies. It got a bit close to Christmas, so have decided to fork out for the engineer, although I still resent paying so much! I tried ebay and the other supplier, but neither listed the element that I needed (although I did not ring them, which I should have).

    Happy Christmas
  • This is a bit late I realise but for any one else with these issues or similar.
The elements for Britannia cookers last approx 2-3 yrs. They are replaced free if the appliance is within the warranty period, however the wait time for a "real" Britannia engineer can be a quite a while.Scotland and Ireland have none these are carried out by contrators, If you are out of warranty speak to Serviceforce in your area who will do the job for a 10th of the price. Britannia parts can be substituted by most Zanussi parts which again are a 10th of the price and are in stock and don't have a rediculous wait time.
You may be able to purchase them from the manufacturer in Italy ILVE.
Britannia make there profit out of there parts and using there engineers
when most cookers can be fixed using cheaper relaiable parts.
