Car insurance category for commuting to multiple permanent places of work?

Hi, I have had much contrasting advice on this so would be grateful for some clarity! I have 3 different places of work. They are permanent, same days each week. I spend all day at each when I'm there, I don't travel between them or use my car when at work. Logically I feel this should fall under Social and Commuting use as I am purely commuting to these places of work. However I have been told by some people / insurers that Social and Commuting only covers 1 place of work and if more than one it is classed as Business use. Thanks!

That is correct. The commuting that goes with SDP is to a single place of work. Although Aviva seem to allow multiple places providing its only one per day.
You need business use. It normally doesn't cost much, if anything.

The best idea is to get it from the horses mouth and check with your insurer

Indeed, it will depend on the precise terms of the policy but the majority of insurers define commuting as being to a single place if work, and require business cover if you are travelling to multiple places of work. The cost of adding business use is often pennies or even free; some insurers (eg Direct Line) include it as standard unless you're in a higher risk occupation.

Are they three different places of work for the same employer?  I would definitely interpret that as business use.
If they are three different jobs, I might be more inclined to interpret that as commuting.

I would get (and indeed do get) class 1 business use.

its very simple, most insurers would class this as business use. Check with your chosen insurer to be certain. Even simpler.

Thanks everyone! I will definitely confirm with the insurer I plan to go with, but when plugging details into comparison sites I want the best chance of getting accurate quotes, hence the question. So will enter business use but confirm before taking the policy out.

One further question if I may. It's 3 different places for 3 different jobs (not the same emloyer). Do I count milage getting to one of them as commuting and the other 2 as business use, or is my journey to all 3 business use? Thanks again.

If you get business use, it won't matter.

I always have business use and it never really costs much, sometimes even cheaper than without.

When I renewed my car insurance last month, I got a telephone call from my insurers asking me if I had got cover. He promptly reduced the cost of my renewal by £40 and when I told him that I also wanted business insurance, he added that at no extra cost.

Insuring as business use usually has little or no negative impact on quotes.  If you get stopped by the police and they check whether you have correct cover it can be very expensive.  There are a number of cases on pepipoo about this.
