Stag Do accommodation and Travel Insurance

The accommodation for our stag do in June was paid in January but following C19 all flights to Portugal were cancelled. The full amount of £1100 was paid in full by one of the party on his Credit Card so he made a claim on Halifax/ Axa travel insurance policy who said they were only liable for his portion (£55) and not the other in the party (there were 20 of us in total. He had a £50 excess so ended up getting £5 back. This seems totally unfair given that he could have been treating everyone to the trip so should be entitled to claim. Any thoughts on what to do next other than complain/ FOS?

You'll each have to claim on YOUR travel insurance - unless someone has taken out a group insurance policy.

Travel insurance covers the named insured only. Not other unnamed members of the same travelling party.
  • Yes sadly this is how it works.     It isn't actually that unfair when you think about it?   If you are not on a policy (either joint or individual)  then you haven't paid a fee so therefore are not insured at all.   From insurers point of view why would they pay out for anyone who hasn't got insurance cover?      But be thankful you are only looking at losing £55.  Could be much worse.
