Creating a second Ford key?

Sounds expensive because i only paid £25 for a ford style flip key. Paid less than that for a jaguar flip key.
Dont forget the X-Type Jag is a Mondeo under that skin, keys/fobs are swappable.
£30 for a code reader is expensive when the same units or better units are available for £20. Depends on the actual
car, on the petrol mondeo i used a sub £5 OBD bluetooth box which worked a treat. For the diesels though it
needed something better which was the £20 box.
You just need to look in the right places.

If you get a key cut but not programmed - will it just unlock the doors but nothing else?I think i can possibly program my own key. What i can't do is cut it myself.Looking up videos on YouTube it SEEMS straightforward to program a key if you have ForScan - which i now have. Had to end up buying it as my brothers OBD2 reader wouldn't read some codes so just ordered myself an adapter and downloaded ForScan.Timpsons don't cut your key, only theirs.I was thinking the chances of me seeing a local motor locksmith and saying hey can you cut me a key but don't program it because i can do that and i'd rather not give you extra cash - chances of this resulting in him cutting me a key would be slim i guess. Who knows. But if i'm cheeky with it and just say with the problems i'm having with the car, i just want a key to be able to open the door in case i lock my own key inside, but i don't need that key programming - i would imagine i'd have a better chance getting a key cut.Just depends whether an unprogrammed key will open the doors or not.0

key needs to be ordered at the dealer. once it turns up need car and any other keys to come into the workshop for coding, {additional cost), you can get this done else where, but if it goes wrong........0

You can read the (Tibbe type) number from your existing key - its stepped into 4 heights.1-4.
I used to work with a guy who could have a quick look (seconds) and tell you the key number.
We had a fleet of Transits and would regularly arrive for work in the morning to find a filler cap missing, thieves would read the number from the lock and now had a key for that vehicle, stolen fuel cap would mean new locks all round.0 -

Find a keycutters thats not a big brand. Plenty of small shops stilla round. My local guy charged me under £5.
Seem to remember that Ford will supply and cut the blank that slides onto the remote for under £15.
