Back billing issue

Good evening,
We were being supplied by Don. We switched to them on a dual fuel tariff back in June of 2019.

We paid by fixed monthly direct debit and this appeared to be covering our quarterly bills with no issue.

At the end of our tariff we switched supplier which went through earlier this month. However today we have had a huge bill come through from EON for £384. When I have queried this, as I thought our bill was paid off, they have said that this new bill was issued because there was a problem with our electricity supply, and that we had never once been billed for electric.

They went on to say that they had resolved this and were now issuing a bill to cover all the electric we have used in 14 months. I queried wether all of this was valid as I thought at least 2 months of it would not be under back billing rules, as we had been unaware that they had not been billing us, as the issue was at their end, but they are adamant that it all stands as it is based off actual smart reader readings and back billing apparently only applies to estimated reads....

Can anyone help/advise?
