Has anyone had any experience with threatening to leave O2/their retention team?
My contact ran out a year ago and I've been on a sim only one since, but my phone has recently broken so I'm in need of an upgrade. The prices and contract length seem to have skyrocketed and there's very little incentive to stay on as a customer (for reference I've been with o2 about 15 years now) aside from the ease of staying with the same company and my most contacted people also being on the same network. I wondered if I were to ring up and say I was switching to another network would I have any success at being offered a better deal?

    Do your homework.
How many minutes, texts data do use use, What can you get with other networks and at what cost

What phone are you intent on getting,
Will it be outright purchase, how much will it cost on contract with other networks.
All questions you need to ask yourself

I've worked all this out - I know how much data etc I need, which phone I want, even which colour, and checked out competitor's deals and have a couple in mind which are similar to the one's O2 offer but cheaper. I'm unsure if this would make any difference if I spoke to O2 which I why I was asking if anyone had had any experience of trying to negotiate a better deal.

One thing in O2's favour is their network, which beats Vodafone's. So if you find a better deal with a company that uses the O2 network - eg Tesco Mobile - go for it.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

I didn't realise Tesco used their network! Is there a way to find out which other companies do? The network is one of the reasons I've stayed with O2 as some of my family live quite rurally.

I'm with O2 sim only and yes last year retentions offered me a sim only deal that is not publicly listed , I buy my handsets outright every time, one thing which may currently be against you is the extaordinary circumstances we find ourselves in, I know when I went to renew my home insurance, going through the phone options, the agent didn't even want my policy number or postcode and answered the question before being asked "that's the renewal BAFO"
