Wed/Thurs site change?

Thursdays (and Wednesdays - see posts further down thread :o ) make me cry (actually it's more of a scream and abuse shouting episode but let's not be too pedantic ;))

The site is so slow that it's painful. I answered a post that had no replies and by the time the page loaded 2 minutes later (yes, actually) there were 2 replies in front of mine.

Is there no way that extra bandwidth (or whatever it is that's needed) could be available as an extra boost for Thursdays only? I'm not up on techie stuff like this so I don't even know if that's feasible.

Alternatively, might it not be a better idea to spread the email sending over a few days so that the extra site traffic is not all concentrated on Thursdays? Surely we can all check the main site if we're worried we might miss out on something?

Another idea would be to block all users except me for an hour or so, so that I could check the site out in peace on Thursday morning......but I don't think Martin would go for that somehow ;)

I understand your frustration with the site speed troubles on a Thursday, Aliasojo.

I've noticed a slow down on Wednesdays/Thursdays too.

Can I add Fridays to the list too? Fortunately it's not every Friday, just the dates when Martin is a guest on the BBC Radio 2 Jeremy Vine lunchtime show around 1pm.;)

Martin is just too popular (Judi would say gorgeous:D ).........so here are my suggestions:

1 The e-mail is only sent out weekly to his biggest fans..........the rest can have the e-mail sent out monthly.

2 His appearances on BBC Radio 2 are moved to a midnight slot.......then the only users to be inconvenienced will be Edinburghlass and Fran.........who don't need sleep anyway.;)

3 Martin wears a paper bag on his head when he appears on the television and stuffs cotton wool in his mouth (Godfather stylie:D ) to slow down his speech so nobody recognises him.

I'm going to be in so much trouble now.:o

You know aliasojo, I could have sworn today is Wednesday? If its Thursday I shouldn't be at work so I am off home...

    Maybe its Thursday in Canada?

Never mind, as tomorrow is Thursday, I'll block you tomorrow along with that Nile and that just leaves Fran, Allexie and I to view MSE and so it will speed up?

Folks - i have given brendan a much bigger server budget (again) and we're looking at how to spend it to mean the above doesn't happen. However do remember how it used to be - things are a lot better. And we're not going to rush this - i want to get it right.

Yes it is Wednesday in the Uk, and also in aliasojo-land. Given this fact, could we please forget my reference to Thursday in my first post and change it to Wednesday AND Thursday. :D

    (Going for a lie down now.....got a headache..........:p )

Actually, maybe it's not so bad having a couple of infuriatingly slow days ... I may give up and finally get some work done!
