Overbooking and offer of alternative accommodation

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help.
We were at the airport and got a call to say our hotel was overbooked and offered an alternative that I knew from looking for our honeymoon (within current travel restrictions) was not where I would like. It was also much cheaper at the time of booking, nearly half price. The hotel we booked also doubled in price after I booked so I'm not surprised we were shortlisted for the bump. So they offered a full refund as I had no interest in having a holiday in a rubbish hotel. I took it and am awaiting this but the more I think about it I am unhappy that I haven't gone away, to rebook will be at the more inflated cost and is there any way to get what I booked in a month or so at the price I paid? Isn't there some sort of rule that I can exercise like loss over and above the actual cost?
I am so disappointed and have to say felt quite pushed into the refund.

Reading the terms and conditions of the unnamed booking source will I suspect provide the answer but in general you would be entitled to a refund (which it seems you took) if the alternative hotel offered was not viewed as suitable.
No legal standing that I can think of which would allow you to rebook at the same price paid for later travel.
Possible claim for losses for the late cancelled trip. For example parking your car at the airport and then being told of the change and your subsequent cancellation.

I think you're right and I have asked for parking reimbursement. I was just living in hopesville. Thank you.

Who did you book with? - LoveHolidays and On The Beach seem to have been the worst for overbookings abroad - and Hoseasons in the UK0

Jet2 MATTR5. Wouldn't touch On The Beach as I had trouble with them years ago. LoveHolidays are OK but don't like the way they build on the listed price with transfers and luggage.
