Charging for free facilities

Hi we’ve booked a Uk holiday site For our staycation. I researched a lot before booking and have paid A lot more than we normally would for this type of holiday because of the award winning pools. Due to COVID the indoor pool remains closed but the outdoor pool is now open. But you can only book 50 minute sessions and it’s £4 per person. So to swim once a day for my family will cost an additional £112 over the week.  I think the site could be in breach of contract, any advice/thoughts please?  Thanks

Possibly - but I think the devil might be in the detail. Can you post a link to their website explaining the charges?

If they are for example operating under restriction and it is a £4pp ‘reservation fee’ to guarantee advance timed entry to swim and others who just turn up may possibly not be allowed in or have to wait due to capacity restrictions, then possibly understandable.
  • Yes, check the t's and c's Leanne.  Most places will reserve the right to withdraw amenities should they need to.  Obviously this pandemic has thrown everyone into disarray.   But have to say 10/10 for being optimistic enough to think the weather will be good enough to use an outdoor pool daily.  Have a great time nontheless.  Am sure you can find other things to do.   Said somewhere else - improvisation is the key this year.   We've just had a fabulous time in Yorkshire, completely different from other years but fantastic all the same.

I wouldn't even bother using a public pool if it were me, given that coronavirus is spread mostly by mouth - saliva and anything else that comes out of it. When I imagine all the spitting out of water that must go on in pools, it turns my stomach to be honest.

They may be doing you a big favour by charging. But I'd not use a public pool, whether it was free or not. And I do think you are lucky being able to go on holiday this year anyway. It's not normal times.

The chlorine in pools will kill the virus.

Genuine question - does the thought of swimming in a public pool turn your stomach in non-Covid times?  Covid-19 is one of many diseases, viruses, infections that can be caught by transmission of bodily fluids.  A properly maintained, properly treated (chlorine etc) pool will inactivate C-19 (as well as all manner of other nasties).

Obviously maintain social distancing, be aware in changing areas and have a proper shower afterwards.

To provide the facility the site is most likely having to incur considerable additional expense. Your choice as to much you wish to use it if at all. The site has a primary duty of care towards all of it's clients.
