Overdraft

Hi can anyone give some advice, I have a joint account with my wife and have an overdraft in place, we often have to use it when needed, recently my son has started to have his wages paid into our account but unfortunately some of his wages are going on paying some of our overdraft, will we be able to get his money reimbursed as it's unfair his money is being used to pay off overdraft, please help

Tell your son to open up his own bank account.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

I dont see that will happen.
Why are you entering the overdraft ?
Why is your sons wages being paid into your account ?
He should have his own account, some accounts can be opened really quick.

What's stopping you from simply reimbursing him yourself, i.e. withdrawing the relevant wage amount and giving it back to him, thereby returning your account to how it was immediately before the credit?
  • You mean get it compensated.... no it won't work

Your son should have his own account. They are very easy to get these days - simple current account with a debit card - no overdraft.

Indeed, this. Metro bank open basic accounts in branch as you wait, I believe.

Best guess they have spent his wages.
Or do not understand how a Overdraft works.
Thinking that any money that comes in keeps the balance in the positive, while you get to spend the Overdraft and pay this back when you can.

Rather than jumping to some of the more sinister suggestions on this thread, let's just say that you have all done what seemed simplest at the time but you overlooked the problem that your overdraft would cause to your son.
But one of the first things any young man/woman should do upon embarking on a career and earning a regular salary is to open his/her first Bank Account. And IMHO parents should encourage this most strongly .The sooner the better. So I agree with the posts that simply suggest a new account opened by your son, and not necessarily at your bank unless he wants to ----- it would help his education if he was encouraged to look around by himself to find which bank meets his needs most or appeals to him; as well as considering a credit card if he needs one , and helping him to understand how to use a CC responsibly.
This avenue, as suggested by most posters above, seems to be by far the best answer to your O/P.
