France Trip - Insurance company refusing to process claim

We are booked to travel to France on 28th August, our travel & accomodation was booked independently & we are not able to get a refund from either. I purchased annual travel insurance with Traveltime back in Feb. After speaking with them this morning they adviced we are not able to make a claim, directing me to the following condition of the policy.

'Any claims arising as a direct result of a situation highlighted by the FCO where you have travelled to a specific country or to an area where, prior to your trip commencing, the FCO have advised against all (but essential) travel'

Having referred to this, my reading is that we'd not be covered if we went ahead with the trip which is understandable. However, this must be different from cancellation due to FCO advice. I have not receieved any notification of amendments to my policy since purchase. However, on their website (under FAQ) they have section which reads:

'Your policy does not provide cover for cancellation due to a change in FCO travel advice.'

I've now read the majority of the policy wording and can't see anywhere that would suggest we're not covered but now very confused and frustrated. Any advise would be appreciated.

we are not able to make a claim,
'Any claims arising as a direct result of a situation highlighted by the FCO .....to an area where, prior to your trip commencing, the FCO have advised against all (but essential) travel'
That would seem to cover it.
If you are not happy with your insurance company's decision then follow the complaint procedure  detailed in your policy document

As you say obviously you are not covered if you travel, but the problem is there's no way of knowing when the FAQ on their website was written. All you can go on is the working in your policy. If you are unable to find any clause relating to not being covered for not being able to travel due to FCO advice then I would give the insurance company another call and ask them to point out where in your policy it says you are excluded. If they can't and they still refuse then go through the normal complaints procedure.
