Do you know what's wrong with it? I bought a Daewoo TV from Lidl's a few years ago, and when it was about 18 months old it gave out a bang and stopped working. I can't remember exactly what was wrong with it but I got it fixed locally for £30. I'd told them if it was going to be expensive not to bother repairing it. That was about 6 years ago and it's still working fine.

You might be surprised. It might not take all that much to repair.
  • I had to take my pc back to Tesco,it had a twelve month guarantee, but when I bought it,there was an offer of two years free guarantee exclusive to Tesco.I found fault with it after 14 months and went back to ask for help.I was told they only deal with the twelve month guarantee period instore, any further periods of guarantee are at the discretion of the manufacturer and the pc had to be sent to them to repair or replace.I contacted manufacturer, and they sent a courier for the goods that day and repaired it.Try ringing the manufacturer they may be happy to repair or replace especially if you quote the sale of goods act as someone has previously mentioned.

New poster - i'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt. :) I don't think it's unreasonable to want a TV to last more than 18 months before breaking down. There's no harm in asking if there's anything you can do about it.

A guy on Radio 2 last night on the Chris Evans show said warranties weren't worth it and a product must last a 'reasonable time' - three years is a reasonable time for a fridge freezer, and I would expect a TV for this timescale too.

Don't go in all guns blazing, but contact the manufacturer in the first instance.

    Catt xx

But over 30 hours and no other posts or replies... If the OP was that desperate or serious then surely there would be another post or at least thank you or "I will give that a go"
  • consumerdirect.gov.uk is your friend :) I recently had a problem with my xbox and was told by Blockbusters after 28 days you have to go to the manufacturer. I stumbled across consumer direct and they were very helpful they gave me the parts of the acts I needed to quote and said the bottom line is, legally, any electrical item over £100 has got to last 6 years. They even gave me a reference number if I needed to get back in touch with them, but they said I shouldn't need it. And do you know what?.....I didnt. Went down and they begrudgingly swapped it for a new one.
