Buying property in almost every other EU country is an absolute breeze in comparison and that's saying something about the bureaucratic French!
    Really?
    https://www.frenchconnections.co.uk/property/selling/legal-guide-to-selling-property-france

Or, for example, Spain where there's an official price along with an under-the-table envelope which the Notary Public (because you have to do the final signing in person, face-to-face in their office) knows all about but doesn't officially recognise...?

And, of course, you seem to have forgotten that Scotland really is VERY different to Ingurlandcestershire.

Here me out here folks my head is about to explode.

Does anyone else just want to scream  at the length of time it takes to purchase a property in the UK?
Every time i purchase a property i promise myself that i will lobby my MP to radically overhaul the legal process involved which simply seems to be designed to line the pockets of the legal profession. Now don't get me wrong, i fully appreciate the due diligence involved but now that email and almost all necessary documents are in electric format, why does the process still take forever!

I often feel that the legal profession needs to maintain the air of complexity around the process just to continue to charge their exorbitant fees. But come on, lots of us work in very complex industries with lots of queries and docs flying around. In the 21st century does it really need to take as long as it did back in the 19th century!

"Can i have an update please?" Hello stupid pheasant, rest assured we're doing everything we can to push your purchase along and we've even sent a couple of emails today, despite the fact you instructed us 4 weeks ago.
Obviously we'll need to wait a minimum of 2 weeks for a reply before we even consider sending a chaser, but rest assured we'll contact you as soon as we can be bothered too.

Seriously we should all just stay put until the government get their a*s in gear and simplify the whole process. Annoyed as hell i am.

    Have a nice weekend.
Are you buying in cash? If not, then you have no say on it.

If you are buying in cash, it's simple.

I do find the whole process of buying and selling in the England very lengthy and stressful. Solicitors haven’t really been the issue for me, it has been lenders and chains and people pulling out and gazumpers etc.

Anecdotally, friends from various other countries in Europe feel it is a lot easier to move house in their respective countries than in England.

I have heard the Scottish process is better, is that true?

OP, you do realise we have different jurisdictions (and house-buying processes) within the UK? Or do you think they're all equally rubbish?
Please don't embarrass yourself by claiming the process is radically different in any part of the UK, the process is broadly similar in all, as you well know.
Additionally i didn't say the process is rubbish, i said it was unnecessarily long winded and complex.
It’s really not the same in every legal jurisdiction within the UK.
"Broadly similar" does not have the same definition as "the same".

OP no-one forced you to buy a house in UK, you can of course spend your hard earned money somewhere else.  Or you are welcome to do the Conveyancing yourself if you think you can do it quicker

    No, it's 100% relevant.

If you want to use someone else's money to buy the property, then the framework is there to protect them.

If you're buying in cash, you can do so with-in a couple of hours.

I agree, very long winded and easily thrown off course as communication across all parties is generally slow and poor.
As an example, my solicitor didn't chase a payment for the disbursements for 6 weeks, therefore didn't submit the searches, I actually made the payment 1 day after instructing them (6 weeks ago!) but it turns out that they had a computer glitch. My mortgage company didn't send out my revised offer (which actually had to go through as a new application with a new rate etc.) after I had to find an alternative property until I chased it and now I don't think they've sent out the revised deed for signature for the same reason and I've just chased that. As everything takes so long anyway figuring out whether there is a problem with something rather than it just being slow is impossible!
