I'm not sure what you filled out, nor asked for, but Vueling are right. You aren't entitled to compensation.

You are however entitled to a refund.
  • I'm still waiting for a refund from BA for the second half of a return flight from the USA in March which they cancelled.  I've called three times now (when I've actually been able to get through!) and each time they agree I'm due a refund and say it'll be with me in up to 6 weeks.  Still no sign.  What can I do??

I booked tickets in December with Ryanair for my husband and I together with our family (a total of 9 people) to go to Portugal on 21st August at a cost of nearly £2,000.  My husband has a heart condition and, due to coronavirus, our GP has advised him not to travel.    I had been hoping that the flight would be cancelled so I could get a refund, but that appears unlikely.

    1.   Can we claim under our travel insurance for the total amount or do my family have to claim under their own individual policies?
    2.  I paid by credit card.  Could I get a refund from my credit card provider?

If the flight goes ahead then you have no claim on your credit card as the service is provided.
You claim your own fares from your travel insurance and the others claim their share from their insurance assuming they have cover for a travel companion not being to go or for  FCO advice not to travel.
You will need to give them  proof of the payment.
