Self marketing - have you tried it?

I'm still pondering the possibility of self marketing and cutting out the agents altogether.
Mainly this is because a house two doors up which is basically the same as ours except they've converted two double bedrooms into three small bedrooms and added a conservatory is still on the market for a year at £205K, we would be around the £165K mark so am thinking people that have looked at their house and thought too much may consider ours.
Anyway, the upshot is I was wondering if there are people that have marketed themselves who could tell me what kind of response they had please?

Yes - Did it and found a buyer therefore saving £s in EA commission

Yes - tried it but had little or no response so ended up using an agent anyway in the end
