IE page not updating, help please

Hi I am using XP home and IE6, tried IE7 and did not like it. I use this site

http://orange.advfn.com/

to look at some shares I have but recently the page does not seem to completely update itself. Some parts do but some do not. I have tried TOOLS/Internet options and deleting cookies and files but still sections do not update. It is as if some parts of the page keep remembering an old page and bring that up rather than up to date information. I know the site is ok as I got someone to check on their PC, so it is something on my PC preventing a totally fresh page coming up.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

  • Could be your IE, your router (if you use one) or your ISP.

Try Ctrl+F5 to refresh the page. Try power cycling the router/modem if you use one. Try a different ISP, e.g. one of the dial-up ones, and if the page updates correctly then it means parts of the old page are being cached incorrectly on the servers between your proper ISP and the web host.

    https://www.ccleaner.com is also worth running.

hmm i was going to suggest deleting temp files/cookies etc, as mentioned check the router-are you using a proxy/cache- as this would cache the page and serve up a slightly older version depending on settings

    hope this helps

Hi I tried Ctrl+F5 and ccleaner but neither helped. Don't really know what power cycling is or how to do it. And not sure how you use a different ISP if I am registered only with one.

Last time something like this happened years ago, I seem to remember that I had to remove something from my PC, ie the page was picking up old info from somewhere on my PC rather than refreshing it from the net, is this not what is going on now? But by deleting temporary files I thought this could not happen, I am lost what to do.
  • Power cycling is simply switching it off for a minute then on again.

    Dial-up ISPs - http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=dial-up+isp&btnG=Search&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB

Most are 0845 numbers, low cost if you dial up for 5 mins after 6pm (I think).
Some you need to sign up and register, some you don't. Then create a new dial-up networking connection on Windows.

Does it work with Firefox? If so, it points to a problem with IE or something IE uses, rather than a router or an ISP issue.

Hi I tried the switching off but no joy. Also my PC is cable connected to my router/modem and I have just noticed that my wireless laptop has the same problem. Have not tried the ISP bit yet or Firefox but I do have Netscape and that gives the same problem if that gives any clues.
