Redundancy and Settlement Agreement advice

I have been informed that my role is now redundant and I will be made redundant in October.   I will be asked to sign a Settlement Agreement and part of that is that I am limited to what I can say to who about my settlement and severance package.

I only received the settlement agreement last week and I am in the process of seeking legal advice as I am required to do.   Over the past few weeks I did have conversations with close colleagues and friends and I did disclose what severance I was offered.   At that point there was no firm guidance on what I could and could not talk about.  Is disclosing this information liable to be an issue for me particularly in receiving my severance package?  At no point did I say anything derogatory about my employer.   Would it be correct to say the agreement only comes into force once it is signed by all parties and so in theory what I may have disclosed is irrelevant ? 
Going forward I will of course respect the terms of the settlement agreement and not discuss this with anyone apart from those people I am allowed to.

I think that would be a question to your legal adviser, and I would suggest observing confidentiality from now on.

The confidentiality clause tends to apply retrospectively so you may want to let your lawyer know and he/she may want to add additional names to the confidentiality clause just to protect you.  Often discussions take place between presentation of the agreement and signature and it’s all about his likely you think it is these conversations will be shared. But I’m sure your lawyer can tweak the clause to cover you and have no recourse once signed.
