Bannatynes Extending Memberships

Hi,
I had a 12 month membership with Bannatynes that expired in July 2020 whilst the gyms were still closed. I cancelled my direct debit as my 12 month contract had come to an end. I am now being told that my contract has been extended for 4 months to cover the period of closure. I understand my membership payments werent taken for those months but my arguement is that I signed up for 12 months, nowhere in the T&Cs does it state that they can pause my contract if the facilities have to close or that they can extend it. Can they do this?
Thanks

Yes they can, you signed for 12 monthly payments of X amount. You have I think paid for 8 so far, cancelling your direct debit doesn’t mean that your contract will be cancelled as a result.
Speak to them very nicely and see if they are prepared to do anything or come to a compromise but I suspect probably not since it wasn’t their fault they had to close either.0 -
Would you have been happy to pay for the 4 months they were closed as you signed up for 12 months.Linzi37 said:Hi,
