I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Audi are part of the VAG group so you could get the work done at another brand within the group, such as Skoda, at a much cheaper price with the same parts used.

If your buying the car at the end then you don't even need to service the car. The final value fees is meaningless if you aren't handing it back.0

The cam-belt (timing belt, or whichever alternative term is used) is an essential preventative maintenance part as if it fails, the repair will either be very expensive, or the car may just be beyond economic repair. That does not mean that you are restricted to Audi main dealer service and can shop around (unless the terms of the PCP forbid this).0 -
CasualBagger said:The cost for the timing belt replacement seems correct for a main dealer. I think the PCP will require you to do it with them unless you're certain you want to buy the car out. The mileage is also about right for replacing it.
I think (though don't quote me) the layout of the TFSI engine in the VAG cars is such that if you are doing work to the belts then you might as well change the water pump while you're down there. If you don't do it and it fails then you have to have at least the accessory belt off again so basically what I'm saying is the water pump is an understandable add-on.
Next time you buy a new car think about looking for one with a drive CHAIN rather than a belt - this will outlast the engine most likely and won't need replacement.1
