Just moved: New suppliers without knowing previous ones (no switch)

Make sure your SSE tariff has no exit fees. Then make a guesstimate of your usage and start comparing dual fuel, electricity only and gas only. Start with Citizens Advice and 'Switch with Which?'. You could try 2,900kWh for electricity and 12,000 for gas, maybe a bit lower if you're in Bournemouth with flats below, above and on all sides, perhaps a bit higher if you're on a windswept top floor in Skegness and are at home all day. Also check the reviews at CA and on this forum.2

The current tariff you will be on is the default: Standard Variable Tariff. Usually the most expensive, but no exit fees.MikeDB said:Great, I’ve found out that the flat is with SSE for both things.I guess now the next thing to do is to create a new account online with SSE,
tell them the address and the meter reading, check the current tariff and then change or switch?
Ignore anything the LA tells you, they are invariably clueless, or taking a bung from a favoured supplier. No free lunch, and no free laptop

How did you get on, MikeDB? I ask as this could help someone else in your position.
Hope you have settled in and are enjoying your new home.1
