Potential Default

Options
Me and my partner are about to start the process of buying a house, however, she is paying off a Shop Direct debt which is close to being cleared she has since read that before the last payment is paid they put a default on your credit file even though its from 4 years ago. She is worried that because it isn't showing on her credit file right now that they will insert it while we go through the process. Can they even do this? Does it sound like something that happens often? I'm not sure why they would default you just as the debt is being cleared?

Any feedback would be very welcome, thank you/

I'll be honest, i have no clue but she can be a bit of a pessimist with these kind of things and reads into it wrong at time but that was how she explained it to me but it doesn't seem true or possible at all to me.

She'll have read some rubbish on facebook or some other equally factually worthless site. You only get defaults when you don't pay and if she's been paying they won't put a default on. They don't just do it for a laugh, it has to be justified and if you're making the repayments then it isn't.

its not currently on there which is the odd thing but she hasn't missed a payment

Have you checked all three files?

If she hasn't missed a payment, I don't know why she thinks she would be defaulted. It would be like getting a speeding ticket for not driving.

Has she made all payments ontime, account still open, etc ?
Defaults are issued for not making your contractural payment, no other reason.
For example if your in financial difficulty, and you cannot afford the repayments, the creditor may default the account, and sell it to a debt collector.
If she is making all her contracted repayments on time, then she has nothing to worry about.
