I remember going to Germany listening to a load of Germans saying that their cars were  unreliable rubbish. I was wondering why the UK public seem to think the opposite is true.
Probably because they were driving cars made by British Leyland before they bought a German made car.

Paula Hamilton's VW, Vorsprung Durch Teknik and Ultimate Driving machine adverts gave German cars a reputation for reliability that they have never deserved.

If you look at the chart there is only 5% between top and bottom.

At the end of the day there is very little between modern cars apart from our own prejudices, which we all have.
thats a good point actually, but its like in a race it doesnt how close the competitors are, it just depends on the top 3 etc...
but i get that this might mean that theres not substantial differences in quality, however in terms of price it does make a hug difference as bmw and popualr brands cost way more that say hyundai, but with hyundai being much higher up in the list it makes sense economically to buy a hyundai no?

I have had some very good Ford's cover 200k miles without missing a beat.
    Also, less durable ones.
Any make gets some lemons amongst the good 'uns

Different people have different views on what they want in a car. Reliability is just one of them.
Even the worst makes like Land Rover are perfectly acceptable really.
If you like cars and driving you’re unlikely to be thrilled with a Dachia or a Hyundai even though such a vehicle would make a great family run about.

No Fords have been made in Britain since 2013. And even before then, they probably made more in Germany than the UK for many years.
As for the "brand", it's American.

If you need a car it's better to have a Dacia or a Hyundai than a broken down BMW.

It probably won’t break down though. That’s the point.

    That was in 1948 though.
