Quick question on what to do here.

3 months ago I did a Chargeback for a holiday that a Travel Agent was refusing to refund (I gave the TA 8 weeks to refund before I raised a chargeback). Credit Card company was pretty unresponsive so I continued to persue the TA and eventually got my money back a month ago - still no word from the CC company.

A week ago had a text from the CC company saying they needed more info to complete my claim so could I get in touch. I didn't bother as had had the money back, and tbh spent far to much energy and effort already getting the sodding money back for this holiday.

Today, the money has arrived in my CC account.... So I have essentially been refunded twice.

So question being what happens now!? I can't be bothered to contact the CC company after they ignored me for 3 months, I also don't care if the TA is getting screwed over here as they have been %$*!@. But what actually happens in this situation!?

They did not ignore you for 3 months. They were working through ALL the other claims. Once they got to your case you ignored them.
I would fully expect the chargeback to reject in 45 days, but could take a couple of months to be picked up. Again due to the sheer number of cases being worked.
So make sure that you do not spend t hat extra refund as it will be wanted back. Either by CC or by the travel agent if they do not contest the chargeback.

  • I suppose my view is if the can't be bothered to respond to my emails or get in touch for 3 months then I can't be bothered to flag to them that I have now been refunded. I know some CC companies just suck up certain claims (rather than bothering to persue the company). So if that is the case I suppose they'd never find out. I won't be spending it, I'll just leave it in the account until next year.

While I get your point. For every email that is just a chase on a case, wastes time actually dealing with other cases.
Hence why they often do not get responded to.
We often get people chasing their case everyday. To the point where more time is wasted responding to these. So it was decided that no response would be sent. Especially when it is as busy as the moment and people chasing card co's when it should be the travel co's dealing with the refunds.
I guess they were hoping that by doing so it would bump them up the list, when in fact in some cases the reverse was true.
