Furlough payments

Contact Us Message *

Hi, I am very new here and am not sure what I am doing or who to ask for help. I couldn't find any info about my issue on gov website and both my employer and HMRC kept sending me to eachother as apparently neither can help me. I am just looking for info about furlough payments. I work at a cinema and as they were closed I am being furloughed. I am being paid an average of the last year I have worked. However, up until October last year I only worked at the cinema part time, as I had another job in a shop. As a result from October until the start of furlough I worked alot more hours at the cinema. However, due to furlough being an average of a year of past payments and because I used to have two jobs it means I am getting alot less money than I would usually earn per month now I work there full time. If that makes sense? Is there anything I can do about this at all. Could I perhaps have my average taken from October instead of April? Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

If your contract of employment is for a fixed number of hours a week, you are likely to be a fixed rate employee, even if you sometimes do overtime, and their claim for your furlough should be based on your pay for the last pay period before 20 March 2020. If you are not a fixed rate employee, the average for 2019/20 up to the date of furlough has to be used, unless your actual wage for the equivalent period in the previous year is higher (which presumably will not be the case).
  • This is how it is unfortunately.
Some people didn't get anything because they changed their job on the 'wrong' date.
