software for small business

My husband has his own small ltd business and I do the bookkeeping using Sage Instant accounts.  I hate sage, and am looking for another software to make my life easier.  I was looking at Bokio, but It still seems hard. Our accountant said about keeping spreadsheets.  Our business invoices for services, so looking at a simple solution to invoice and book keep.

You can do a lot with spreadsheets: I'd talk to the accountant about what he'd like from you, and go with that.

I used to use Sage but it’s a dinosaur now in comparison to newer offerings.   Switched to Xero a couple of years ago and couldn’t be happier.

Have a look at Freeagent which is really easy to use for creating invoices, recording expenses etc.  Most of our clients use it and we get good feedback from them.

Ask your accountant what they can work best with.
No point in producing a year's worth of figures that they have difficulty working with.
They will only charge you more.

I have heard good things about xero, personally I would just use spreadsheets, created templates for invoices etc and usally save to PDF or print, and of course keeping up with accounts is just adding things into a sheet.
You accountant may help with an initial setup of spreadsheets if it makes their life easier.

Xero, Kashflow and Zoho Books all tend to get fairly positive feedback but the features of each vary and a key element will always be what your accountant can work with.

I've only a micro business with one client at a time and so stick to spreadsheets as its fit for purpose for me.
