Changing from prepayment meter

My daughter purchased a house and moved in 2 months ago. It has prepayment meters for both gas & electric which are set to an Economy 7 tariff with EDF.

She contacted EDF as she wants them removed and changed to ‘standard’ meters. EDF said they are not sending engineers out at the moment and she would have to stick with the prepayment meters for now and the Economy 7 Tariff. They can’t give any idea when they can visit. This is working out really expensive and inconvenient having to keep getting top ups.

Does anyone know if any power companies are changing meters at the moment, as she is happy to change supplier if necessary.

The obvious choice is to swich, surely to a supplier who will change them.Long ago had a similar issue and was told if I failed a credit check that the pre-payment meter would remain.Sounds like grounds to request  a complaint/deadlock letter to me,potential to escalate if and when necessary.Maybe try using chat to find if metering can be changed on whichever supplier websites come out cheapest after using comparisons.

I doubt you'll get a complaint to stick at the moment with everything else going on, but I would suggest moving to another supplier.

I agree - a change of supplier would be best - it’s finding one that will change the meters now. I guess she will just need to call round.

This is also one of those occasions where switching to a tariff that requires a smart meter can work in her favour...
