Have you tried one of the app banks like Revolut or perhaps a local credit union which offers accounts?

Do you have a job or get benefits?
  • It's likely to be under CIFAS - have you sent a SAR to them? They'll last 6 years on there. Although it shouldn't, chances are there could be a marker there.

I suspect you'll probably be limited to pre-paid card accounts or basic bank accounts, so I'd check those out:

I'd also submit a SAR to CIFAS and National Hunter, as well as check your credit files from all 3 CRAs and see what comes back. Odds are there is some sort of marker from your past which is adversely affecting your ability to open an account. I'm not sure there is much you can do to get it removed, but at least you'll be able to nail down the cause of your issues.

Thanks for everyone’s replies .... totally appreciate you even replying as I could off bin branded what I was a drug importer ......

im finding it hard to adjust back to normal life , and hurdles like this I will have to overcome just I feel it’s unfair that a system can keep me unable to have a job as I carnt get paid now .....

i will look into everything everyone said above and hopefully sumbit a SARS I will learn how to do that ...

I’m worried I have a checque for 25,000 that was my later grandparents and is to be divided for the kids but I have to cash so I dunno how to cash that ...

    thanks again everyone
  • Give the cheque back to whoever gave it to you - ask them to divide it up to the kids. One problem solved.

Perhaps you could explain your first sentence - been done for money laundering yet its not fraud or did not take anybody's money - how does that work (assuming here you were found guilty)?

There are organisations and charities I would expect to know the answer to this sort of specialist question.  If the advice you have had here doesn't work then perhaps an expert from this list could help: https://www.princes-trust.org.uk/help-for-young-people/who-else/housing-health-wellbeing/ex-offender-support  (I know it says young people, but many of them seem to work with all ages).

But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

You can't get a basic bank account with a CIFAS marker.
  • Have you tried opening a Monzo account? They don't subscribe to CIFAS' national fraud database, only the immigration one and their forum suggests they don't reject people with markers. Revolut/Starling/Monese and the other app based banks all do- Monzo is unique in that aspect as they want to be financially inclusive.

Not when the NCA comes knocking after they end up with a lot of less desirable customers because they want to be "financially inclusive."

Can I just say that Revolut and Monese are not banks, and I would question how Monzo could retain their banking licence if they were offering accounts to people who have been identified as fraudsters.
